We'd been here nearly 2 weeks camped by the river and we were feeling that it was so easy with the Bushtracker, that we could have easily stayed another 2 months. However we have to head towards the Sunshine Coast for family commitments.....so.....ah well, we can always come back..it's only a couple of hours from where we work...some of the time.

We decided not to rush away and we thought we'd have a couple of DAZE at Texas on the river on our way to the coast.

We couldn't help reflect on our wonderful stay here though...no need for the caravan park "Umbilical Cord" and this type of experience just doesn't happen in a caravan park.....lots of other things do though...

Baby Herons nearly ready to fly

Mum and her 6 lil ducklings

We were here at just he right time of year and there had obviously been some rain prior to our arrival as it all looked so lush...more follow up rain needed though. We we always entertained by the antics of the wildlife who rely on this river for their existence and the colour of all the parrots and lorikeets and so many birds had young ones. In a high tree opposite us a pair of Herons had raised a pair of chicks and one was able to glide down to the water on our last day...couldn't work out how to get back to the high nest again though...but it did manage the journey after a while of hoping and fluttering.....a sad note though.....when we went for our drive up the road with the Minelab, we noticed that one of the parents had been hit by a car and ended it's life.

The water hen had a baby swimming around with them...always close by and another camper told us of a pair of hawks that had raised chicks a little further downstream. On my last trip to the river to get a couple of buckets of water, I almost stood  on a pair of Wood Ducks and  their 6 little fluffy ducklings. They like this little beach as it was easy access to the river and sheltered from the rushing water on the other side. I stopped and backed up as they all froze...hoping I wouldn't see them......I backed up all the way to the van and swapped my buckets for my camera and they hung around on the water so I could get some pics.
