Reluctantly we packed up and headed in to Bingara to the show grounds and used the dump point...gee they make life on the road so easy.....we headed North towards the Qld - NSW border and went through Delungra and Graman, then Ashford and Bonshaw and arrived at Texas around 3.00p.m.
The camps book shows a river camp just 1 k South of the town and there were around half a dozen motor homes there.....but after what we had experienced at Bingara for the last couple of weeks....camping on the roadside with a few motor homes.....well....then we looked a bit closer and found some tracks going down to the river....might be a rough ride for a motor home , but a Bushtracker....
Even so....the camp sites here were on the river stones and although they were rounded by water over the years.....a little hard under foot. Were we getting too fussy???? Yeah...and the highway was just so close and the road belongs to the trucks at night and the river has a bridge over it and .........
OK......you get the picture.....not Bingara....now I remember seeing a Creek to Coast program some years ago and it featured the fishing reserves on the river near Texas. A peruse of the local info brochure and a little mud map reading experience and we were soon heading West out of Texas to a spot on the river and off the main highway by 500 metres.

We had a couple of nights here and put this in the book of "Be Backs"...had this spot all to our selves...plenty of firewood too...no other facilities...but then we have them all in the Bushtracker anyway so.....
In the morning we had a visit from a very pretty blue fly who also hung around long enough for the kodak kaper....
This guy didn't miss when the good looks were being passed out |
The Lorikeets paid us a visit too |
We really have become so used to this lifestyle of just no agenda and no time table and we find ourselves appreciating everything around us a whole lot more as we take the time to notice just what beauty and serenity IS around us. Life's good.....get a life....we took the advice.
Home is where you park it...... |
This is our front yard...on this day that is. |
Again we packed up and hit the road back into Texas....found the Rubbish dump with the helpful directions of a guy who pulled up while we at the Texas Dump Point...turns out he was the local tourist info coordinator and a caravanner himself...he and his wife are retired and enjoy a bit of fishing and prospecting too. The Dump Point was a new improvement for the town and helps travelers stay a little longer and if they stay, they will eventually spend some money in the town...Thank you Texas...we'll be back..................Oh.....How much Gold did we find????? Enough to make it fun, but would it buy us an Ice Cream????
At the time of writing this we're in Rockhampton
for Easter looking after a motel for 3 weeks and we have 5 days after we finish
here before we start our next job in Armidale....so do you reckon you know where
to find us for those 5 DAZE????.........Yep, Bingara here we come......
