Now when we had wined and dined I logged on to the internet like any Gold Prospector would do and looked for a few tips and after a while I felt we were only inches away from a big strike....so next morning after a leisurely breakfast....it was back to the river for more digging and panning by gum.

The preceding day we had picked on some really large rocks in the stream which we felt would have snared some gold specks being washed by...moved the rocks and dug under them. We were only washing gravel though and as gold is twice the weight of lead it will work it's way through the gravel...in the river bed the same as it does in the pan...so maybe we would find gold further down??? If we found bedrock or a similar layer to prevent it going deeper....nearly sounds like we know what we're talking about doesn't it.....thank heavens for the World Wide Web....

Eureka....we've struck the Mother Lode

Late afternoon
flick of the lure.......ahhh

A little more digging in the same hole as yesterday had us digging up big chunks of light grey clay (Pipe Clay) and yep we were a couple of feet down and there was our gold trap...the clay. Instantly we started finding our specks of gold...how exciting....well it was for us...our first colour of gold....even more fun than finding Sapphires.

Seems like we were really close to finding it after all......we panned and played and sat and...hang on...we haven't had the Minelab's out yet.....well we did give them a run and found the usual bottle tops and ring pulls around the camp so we went up the road a little to a dry creek bed that runs into the river....very hard digging in that river gravel and rocks for some old bullet shells.......so back to camp and put the feet up...after all this IS a holiday. We'll take the Minelab's to another area one day.
