Corner To Gulf

Cameron Corner to Karumba
 May-June 2008

The road North was in pretty good order when we came through and we found it getting better as we progressed as eventually we found the road crew and grader camps along the way. Instead of going straight ahead to Gregory Downs and out to Adels Grove from there, we turned off towards Riversleigh. The road was a lot nicer and the road from Adel's Grove to Gregory Downs had some mine truck traffic and was our track out towards Burketown when we left Lawn Hill, so we did the loop and were glad of the scenery.

Turn Left for Riversleigh

Hmmmmm......

Well....in the wet season it would be pretty wild flowing through here, but the end of May is a placid time for the crossings in the region. Savannah country is dry grasslands and trees gnarled and twisted from drought, but then these rivers are an oasis and such a beautiful stop over for a night or even lunch by the flowing waters.

How's this for a nice river scene?? O'Shanassy River

How do you tear yourself away from these idyllic spots???? It was mid afternoon and I would have been happy to camp for the night right here on the Gregory, but Julie has a thing about Crocodiles and is petrified of them. As beautiful as it was here, she just kept turning around and looking everywhere and couldn't relax and take in the beauty of it all. Even though there weren't any croc's for a hundred k's or more....that didn't make her feel any easier about being here with all this water. So....hit the dusty trail and head North for Adel's Grove...."A happy wife is a happy life"........
