South West Queensland September 2007 |

Reluctantly we packed up and left Pump Hole, but knowing full well that we'll be back.....We drove out on a sand track that brought us out of the Northern end of the park and then a red dirt road to Eulo and that gets us back on the bitumen...Oh well....an easy run to Cunnamulla where we had lunch and then Eastwards again to Bollon.
It was getting into late afternoon so we decided to pull up for the night and you know the local council here also cater for us travelers and if you turn off the main road at the fire station you'll find the road leads to a water hole made by the weir in town and they have a large grassed area for campers...cost...nil. Also provided are water taps everywhere and some have their vans hooked up for long term stay....even though I thought it was only 24 hours...but that's the bush and it's really in their best interest to keep you there as long as they can so you'll spend money in the town.
Behind the fire
station is a tap and yep .... a dump point for chemical toilets.....how good is
that....
A nice place here and we could have lingered longer, but we have a date in
Armidale, NSW.
So off we head South again to Dirranbandi and then Mungindi and Maybe a camp at
Moree which will leave a short run to Armidale the next day.

We headed down the red road to Dirranbandi and the scenery was really great with red sand and big cypress trees everyhwere. The drive to Moree was uneventful and we spent a little time looking for the turn off to Gum Flat Reserve and the drive in along the river track was really worthwhile.....this is the Gwydir River and these flats are superb and firewood everywhere.......Oh OK I guess one more campfire won't hurt. This is a great spot and easy access....a couple of old ladies cruised past us in the morning in their Toyota Corolla....
Well this morning
we're off to Armidale and that brings us to the end of this
adventure......Looking back, we could easily do it all over again and still have
just as much fun.
Now we're planning the next adventure when we have 6 weeks to play with in Feb
and March 2008. It will be too hot for the outback, so maybe a run down South to
Southern NSW or even Victoria.....we just purchased a couple of metal detectors,
so maybe we'll head for the Golden Triangle in Vic....and then on to the great
ocean road??? Oh well planning the holiday is half the fun....isn't it???
